About

Principles

Across all sectors, cooperative citizens are coming together to better understand what it means to be a part of the cooperative economy, and how we can work together to leverage our power as members of the cooperative movement. While each individual co-op has a unique mission and membership, we share a core set of values, including self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity, honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. As co-ops, we have more in common than we often realize.

Story

The Think Tank Media was born in 2010 as a way to bring together people who care about co-ops to talk about those very values. Since then, a growing number of folks have come together for rich conversations about the cooperative economy in Canada & US, and have begun to articulate a clear vision for an organization that will serve current co-ops, new co-ops, people interested in learning more about the cooperative model, and, most importantly, will facilitate social and economic change that benefits everyone.

In August 2016, we held a strategic planning retreat that clarified the organizational structure and set goals for 2017. Following the recommendations that arose through that retreat, TTM has formed a steering committee to represent the general membership. The 2017 goals are being implemented through our projects. These efforts symbolize the strength of TTM to support the principles we fight for and inspire others to join the co-operative movement.
